A dietary supplement, Lipozene contains a natural soluble fiber called glucomannan or propol. Extracted from the root of the konjac plant, which is grown in eastern Asia, glucomannan increases in volume in the stomach when it binds with water. In this way, lipozene makes one feel full. Lipozene suppresses one’s appetite, resulting to decreased food intake and weight loss.
What’s in a name?
Lipozene was coined after liposuction. Lipozene, however, is not connected to the surgical procedure. Lipozene was introduced in 2006 by the Obesity Research Institute LLC which has been accused for making unsubstantiated or false claims. This was for the weight loss pills Fiberslim and Propolene.
The key ingredients
Glucamannan is an un-absorbable polysaccharide which goes through your body providing fiber. Apart from Glucamannan, microcrystalline cellulose, stearic acid, gelatin, and magnesium strearate are also added to Lipozene. Lipozene does not contain ephedra, making a relatively safe dietary supplement. Distributors of Lipozene tout it as weight loss pill that effectively reduces body fat.
Weight loss aid
Clinical studies have shown that dietary supplements containing glucomannan can reduce up to two kilograms of weight. In Lipozene, however, only three pounds can be lost in two months.
Clinical studies show, however, that glucammannan decreases cholesterol and triglyceride levels. This may have negative effects among people who have high levels of cholesterol or blood pressure.
Side effects
Glucamannan has one major disadvantage. It affects the absorption of vitamins and nutrients. Multi vitamin or nutrient supplements are needed when taking Lipozene. Before taking propolene, it is advised to consult a health care professional. This is to make sure that there are sufficient levels of vitamins and nutrients.
Alternative fiber sources
Lipozene is essentially a weight loss supplement made of fiber. Fiber aids in weight loss and nutritionists always encourage regular intake of fiber. Among North Americans, only 14 grams are being consumed every day. This means that they are only getting half of what they need. There are easier ways, though, to include fiber in a regular diet. Fiber is present in vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes.
Daily intake
A bottle of Lipozene has 60 capsules. One capsule of Lipozene is taken with water prior to a meal. This is the dosage prescribed for people who need to lose weight. Those who need to lose more weight can double their intake. Thirty minutes before taking a meal, one can take two capsules. Distributors recommend only a daily intake of six capsules. One can take two capsules for every meal. Meals however are limited only to three times per day.
