Most people get off to a good start when they begin a new diet. They lose weight over the first couple of weeks and feel great. Then a couple of hurdles come up and for whatever reason they eat the naughty stuff and undo all their hard work - at least that is what they think!
In actual fact an occasional binge is not going to hurt you as much as you think. The biggest key to sustained weight loss is sustained motivation. There is nothing that kills motivation faster than a big binge session, but it should not have to.
Let-s look at Susan, who is 27 years old, and weighs 80kgs. With an office job and virtually no exercise, she would burn around 2000 calories a day. She then sticks to a diet of 1200 calories a day.
On this diet, each week she would burn around 5600 calories more than she is eating, meaning she would lose around 0.75kg a week or 3kg a month.
Now on top of Susan-s normal eating, lets say she has a terrible day every Sunday and binges on a packet of chips (245 Cal), Mars bar (275 Cal), McDonalds large Big Mac McValue meal (1160 Cal) and large bowl of ice cream (290 Cal). Remember, this is on top of what she would normally eat on a Sunday anyway, so a big binge.
All this eating on a Sunday (1970 Calories worth) would only change her weekly weight loss from 0.75kg to 0.5kg. So Susan is still losing 0.5kg a week, which is great!
So you can see that she really should not get too down on herself for a bad day, but rather try and put it behind her and get back to her healthy eating the next day.
By allowing yourself one -cheat day- a week you can help stay focused during the week and enjoy the benefits!
It should be stressed that this article is in no way advocating binge eating. There is no doubt that Susan-s binge eating is not the IDEAL situation but it is simply trying to illustrate a point that you should not lose motivation if you occasionally enjoy your other favourites.
If you absolutely have to have a certain food that you know is bad, keep it to one day a week and don-t beat yourself up about it. The most important thing is that you keep your mind focused on your end goal and maintain your motivation through to the end.

Law 1 - WATER
Yep you’ve heard it time and time again and yet so many people spend their days dehydrated without even realising it. You should be drinking approximately 2 litres a day (more if you work in hot conditions or are doing a lot of exercise).
What I do is buy a 2L water bottle and just fill it up each day so that way I can keep track of how much I’ve drunk rather than trying to remember how many glasses = 2 litres. I also squeeze a little lemon in it to give it a bit of kick!
Law 2 - MOVING
Yep you’ve heard this one too and unfortunately we do have to get that backside moving if we want to be healthy and lose some weight too. Start small just aim for 30 minutes a day and work your way up from there.
Walk the dog
Dance to a CD
Have some bedroom fun
Do the vacumming with the music pumping
Run around the park with the kiddies
Jump in the pool and have your own water aerobics (its heaps of fun trust me!)
Law 3 - EATING
Starving yourself is NOT the answer to your problems - quite frankly it is the worst thing you could do. You need food to fuel your body AND to keep your metabolism working as hard as it can. Stock up on veges, fruit, nuts, lean meat and grains. Don’t fall victim to crazy fad diets - eat a balanced diet, high in protein and try to avoid heaps of carbs at night time.
Law 4 - GOALS
Setting goals is the main way you can achieve weight loss success. Having some there in black and white to aim towards will keep you on track like nothing else can. Stick it to your fridge, to your bathroom mirror, to your office computer ANYWHERE you see it all the time. Cut out pictures of bodies you aspire too, the outfit you’re going to buy when you get to your goal weight, pre-baby picture you want to get back to anything that gets you going.

Becoming obese and becoming over weight is becoming more and more widespread in the world. Majority of the people are gaining weight and they are also losing their ideal weight. In fact, if you are over 20% of your ideal body weight, then you may be considered obese. Although our life style contributes to gaining weight due to bad eating habits and reduced activity, there are also medical reasons for gaining weight. This means that not all people gain weight due to eating too much or eating too greasy. In fact, you may eat less, but still gain weight if you have a medical deficiency that needs to be addressed.
One important cause of weight gain can be caused by thyroid hormone deficiency or hyperthyroidism. This can be one of the major causes of weight gain as the imbalance of the thyroid hormone will cause fat to be accumulated in your body and you will also have increase in your bodily weight. One of the most relevant mechanisms that cause this is by fluid retention. The fluids are retained by the body and thus tissues swell in the body to give a bloated look. You will also experience fatigue and lethargy, if you are afflicted with hyperthyroidism.
One other important medical cause of weight gain is Cushing-s syndrome. Like hyperthyroidism, this is also caused by hormonal imbalance. In Cushing-s syndrome, the body creates an excess amount of cortisol, which is also a hormone. When you have this disease, you will have accumulation of fat on your face and on your back as well as your abdomen.
Besides these two major hormonal imbalances that cause weight gain, also using prescription drugs can be a way to put on some extra pounds. Many birth control pills have been known to cause fluid retention, swelling and as a result weight gain. Also having psychological disorders can cause you to eating frenzies, which can lead to increased weight. In many documented cases of manic depression, it is possible to gain extra weight that you are not able to lose until you receive psychological treatment.
However, one thing that you should watch out for is the blood sugar imbalance, which can be caused by eating too much refined sugar. You do not need to have a disease to have a blood sugar imbalance, as anyone who eats too much sugar can experience this. For example when you eat a Mars bar when you are hungry, then excess insulin may be produced which can cause you to crave for more foods and sweets. The body will react to starvation and to input of carbohydrates by storing the sugar for future use and thereby causing more lowered blood sugar levels and more eating frenzy.
Thus as it can be seen, you will need to be careful and analyze the reasons carefully for your sudden weight gain. Many times, you will not be able to lose the weight you gained, until you receive some sort of medical treatment. If you are suffering from a medical disorder, you will need to be treated first before you can start a weight loss program.

Diabetes and weight loss come hand-in-hand because unfortunately the medication and disorder can lead to weight gain in diabetic patients. Losing weight and changing eating habits often becomes quite difficult for diabetics but it is crucial for people with such a health condition to look after themselves.
The disease called ‘diabetes’
Diabetes is a type of metabolic disorder described by hyperglycaemia, incorporating high blood sugar levels. Despite public misconceptions diabetes can hit people of all ages, all body types and all backgrounds. Diabetes also comes in three types 1, 2, and gestational diabetes.
Being overweight
Some studies detail that as many as 9 out of 10 diabetic patients are overweight. In fact, there is an estimated number of 80% to 90% of diabetics who are obese or even morbidly obese. Further studies are proving that diabetes and weight loss have a strong association with each other.
Doctor and other health experts are stressing the importance of lowering the blood sugar levels of the patient and that the prevention of further complications begins by losing weight. In every type, the body is resisting insulin, which results in the destruction of cells.
The difficulty
Not only is obesity often a result of diabetes but it is also seen as a major cause of diabetes. People who are overweight are far more likely to fall victim to heart disease, strokes, cancer and diabetes.
Sometimes, going through a strict diet program is not enough because there is a lot of temptation around them when it comes to food. Often times, they are going to realize that they are going back to their former unhealthy eating habits due to lack of support, professional help, and motivation.
Why you need to lose weight
Losing weight includes a lot of benefits:
1.Stabilizing your blood sugar levels.
2.Decreasing your blood glucose.
3.Lowering your cholesterol levels.
4.Decreasing your blood pressure.
5.Increasing your energy levels.
6.Easing your breathing and movement.
7.Lessening the stress on feet, hips, ankles, and knees.
Shape up
There are diabetes and weight loss programs being developed by professionals around the globe to enable diabetic patients the best chance of losing weight and maintaining a healthy body.
You might want to check out the Diabetes Prevention Program that highlights strict dieting and exercise to prevent and/or delay Type 2 Diabetes. This is because of the reason that weight loss can also contribute to the prevention of further complications of the disease.
A complete change in lifestyle
Taking your prescribed insulin and other medication to fight or prevent the disease because diabetes and weight loss also involves changes in your lifestyle. These changes involve a change in eating habits and activities so you can achieve your ideal health goals. You should always consult a doctor before embarking on a diet/weight loss program ESPECIALLY if you have an existing medical condition like diabetes.
Losing weight the healthy way
The more you should be careful when it comes to weight loss if you are diabetic because you need to be able to control your blood sugar levels. Too high and too low blood sugar levels are both risky, so you need to be mindful of what you are eating. Never resort to crash dieting, you will need to maintain a healthy, balanced diet to ensure your body is supplied with the required nutrients.
Keep moving
Becoming active also plays a big part in changing your lifestyle because it has a lot of benefits for a healthier life. Even medical professionals agree that no matter how old you are, regular exercise and leading an active lifestyle are very helpful for people who already have diabetes and those who are still at risk.

Let’s face it, losing the excess weight is a difficult task to do for anyone -” especially around Christmas. With all the yummy foods around and the relaxing days in front of the TV looming its likely even the most stringent diet plan will not be able to help you.
This article provides weight loss help for people who want to shed off those unwanted pounds effectively and still stay healthy.
Adopt a healthy lifestyle
The first weight loss help that everyone needs to know is LIFESTYLE. The key to losing weight is changing your lifestyle. Its all very well going on a crash course diet but to keep the weight off long term you need to change the way you live your life.
Quit smoking, stock up your pantry with veges and fruits, learn to enjoy exercise and thrive on your new way of life.
People who eat healthy food are found to be more capable of maintaining their desired weight and are less susceptible to overeating. When you eat in moderate proportions, your body learns to be satisfied with just the right amount of food. You don’t starve yourself but you don’t go on a binge either.
Eating small meals every 3 hours helps keep your metabolism at a high. When you skip meals, you are more likely to eat more than is necessary on your next meal. Not getting enough sleep will also slow your metabolism down so make sure to get at least 6-8 hours of rest everyday.
Diet and exercise go together
Don’t believe everything you hear about diet pills. Any marketing campaign that includes the words SIT ON THE COUCH AND LOSE WEIGHT is exactly as it sounds -” too good to be true. A proper diet and sufficient exercise works hand in hand towards effective weight loss.
Your meal diet (and all the diet supplements that you use) are meant to reduce your calorie-intake. They are not meant to burn the calories that are already stuck in your body. This is where exercise comes in. You would want to burn those calories to make sure that you really lose weight.

Looking for a weight loss diet recipe that will work? Healthy eating + Regular exercise = WEIGHT LOSS. Of course it isn’t QUITE that simple but those are the two main components you need to see some serious results. Combining a healthy eating plan with regular exercise is the healthiest and most effective way to kick those extra pounds.
Healthy Eating
Healthy eating is a multi faceted part of weight loss/gain. Cutting out food groups is not the answer. Starving yourself while you pine over every cake you see in a shop window is not the answer.
You need to develop a healthy balanced diet that you can grow to love! Stock up on veges, fruit, grains, lean protein and incorporate some carbs and good fats.
It also involves refraining from eating foods that are harmful and fattening to you like junk food and fast food. Often if you eat more fruits and vegetables you will inadvertently lessen or eliminate your junk food consumption.
Healthy eating is a major component of a weight loss diet recipe because as you exercise more and begin to eliminate stored body fat your body will thrive on the vitamins and minerals you provide it through a healthy diet.
Think of it as putting clean fuel into a machine. Partly-clean fuel will make a machine run but over time, it will cause the breakdown of the machine by leaving behind deposits that stick to the machine’s mechanisms and rendering them ineffective.
With clean fuel, it is assured that as the fuel is used up by the machine, it leaves nothing behind that can cause a harmful build-up leading to inefficiencies in the machine, concentrating only in powering the machine up so that it functions to its fullest.
Regular Exercise
Exercise is part of the successful weight loss diet recipe because you need burn what food you consume as energy otherwise it can be stored as fat leading to weight gain. If you think of it in terms of the machine analogy, food is fuel while the body is the machine. The body needs food to function.
Cutting down on calories for weight loss is a good idea (if you’ve been eating a lot of junk food, carbs etc) although it should NOT be extreme. Your body will burn a certain amount of calories a day just getting you around so add exercise to that and you will need even more to keep you pumping.
Exercise is a crucial part of life not only to burn fat but also to keep your organs healthy and working. Try participating in at least 30 minutes of exercise a day whether you take the dog for a walk or hit the treadmill in front of the television.
